Whole Foods has an interesting new initiative to encourage healthy behavior amongst its employees:
The pricey grocery chain will give 30% discounts to those who don’t smoke and have low blood pressure, cholesterol and body mass index (BMI) rates, says CEO John Mackey … Employees will fall into four categories: bronze, silver, gold and platinum. Those showing “platinum”...
chris matthews forgot that im black too →
Hey Chris Matthews, I’m going to talk for an hour and not reference Africa, slavery or rap music. This will most likely cause you to totally forget that I’m black. But then I will eat. watermelon salad and it will remind you. Sorry, can’t “pass” forever. P.s. I never forget you’re an asshole.

black babies are a total bargain →
“Some couple will eventually adopt your black baby. He just has to be able to save them about a year’s worth of college tuition.”
Can’t say I’m shocked. In 1986 I was considered “special needs” because I was black. This is in Michigan, I was 2 weeks old and clearly spectacular. Good thing the Jolie-pitts, Madonna and Haiti are giving black babies a...

Future of magazines
homeofthevain:
Fashion magazines should take note. At the end of the day, they will stay in business not by selling us clothes or by feeding us something we’ve seen hundreds of times before, but by allowing our imaginations to take flight. The Internet can give us runway pictures and analysis faster than any print publication ever could, but it hasn’t yet figured out a way to capture the...

– Warren Buffet makes a good point…why are we punishing the people who paid their debts? It’s a play for populist rage and socialism and I’m not a fan. Punish those in oversight positions who failed at their jobs or Frannie and Freddie people. But why not be glad that for once...

Ugh, this frustrates me…if you are a stable adult in the USA you can for the most part have a child. Now, a pregnancy? Unfortunately some people can’t have those. But there are more babies in...

“Apple, Sarah Palin, Harley Davidson, Tom’s Shoes… In each case, the reality of the product means far less than what the brand represents.
The facts of iPod battery life, knowledge of world affairs, gas mileage and foot comfort are almost irrelevant. What matters is the Jungian rush these brands connote, their ability to allow us to identify ourselves and fellow tribe members,...

Didn’t cry because I don’t often, but this is pretty great.

Oh, the P.S. just doubles the tears.
Damn it. I had a resolution NOT to cry at work this year. Made it eight days.

Love this Tina Brown post. Points out what I’ve always said - crazy banker bonuses are spent into the economy and keep a lot of service industry workers solvent. They also kept me and most every other cute but unpaid intern in booze for the summers of 2006 and 2007 and for that I thank them.

What with all this decade reminiscence, isn’t it strange that basically our whole life happened in this decade, that is, all of high school, college, road trips, jobs, boys, new friends, new ideas, new york, “growing up” whatever that means.
The MTA Sets Nat'l Security Policy
“Elite pundits and policymakers routinely dismiss the ability of ordinary people to respond effectively when they are in harm’s way…This misconception is particularly reckless because it ends up sidelining the greatest asset we have for managing the terrorism threat: the average people who are best positioned to detect and respond to terrorist activities. We have only to look...
Last night we did what we always do. Dance. Drink. Fight. Eat. Help boys find girls. Give girls piggyback rides. End up on the floor. Smuggle in flasks. Evade security guards. Take pictures. Sleep where we fall. Wake up and find food. We’ve been doing it for ten years. Gotta feeling we’ll be doing it for fifty more.
